RoPax Transport: Freight and Passengers
The ferry between IJmuiden and Newcastle operates as a RoPax vessel, meaning that it carries both freight and passengers on a single ship.
Freight units arrive at the terminal throughout the day and are prepared for boarding in coordination with the vessel’s loading plan. Cargo can include trucks with drivers, unaccompanied trailers that are placed on board by terminal personnel, as well as a wide variety of vehicles destined for export such as campers, caravans, agricultural equipment and construction machinery.
Passengers may travel either with their own vehicle or as foot passengers. Because the crossing takes place overnight, the vessel is designed to provide a comfortable travel environment with cabins and onboard facilities for dining and relaxation.
